Fighting for Government Accountability and Transparency.
Right now politician’s handout government contracts and citizens cannot see where their tax dollars are going. TSN is working hard to open up the government contracting process so taxpayers can see what is happening with their money and watch for abuses.
TSN believes strongly that we must have accountability in our state and local governments. We are committed to stopping the “pay to play” shake-down of government contractors for campaign cash. We must protect citizens by stopping politicians who can steer big-money contracts to special interest friends who make large donations. Currently we are working on a large Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request on this issue. Please look at our progress on this issue here and sign up to get updates here.
Protecting Private Property Rights
Private property rights are an integral part of the American dream. In 2005 the Kelo v. City of New London decision sent shockwaves through the county. This decision confirmed government’s right to seize your property and give it to another private party.
While Montana has laws against Eminent Domain the laws against regulatory takings are very weak. Regulatory takings is the new way governments are devaluing properties in order to force people to sell their property. TSN will fight government property takings and the over-regulation of people’s land.
Stop politicians from gutting our term limit laws
In 1992, by a vote of two to one, Montanans passed Constitutional Initiative 64 establishing term limits for statewide elected executive officers and state legislators. In 2004, a proposal went before voters to extend term limits from 8 to 12 years, and was soundly defeated with almost 69% of voters rejecting this ploy.
In Helena the politicians have been trying to overturn the people’s will and extend or eliminate term limits. With your help we defeated two bills in the 2009 Legislative Session that would have gutted our term limit laws. Please join our friends at Montanans In Action to be kept up-to-date on the term limits fight.
Limiting Government Spending
Even with these tough economic times Government spending has risen dramatically in recent years. Since 2001 our General Fund budget has increased by more than 80% and more than 50% in the last 4 years.
In these tough economic times has your income increased by that much? The citizens of Montana have been forced to decrease their spending and make tough choices, while the politicians just spend and spend our hard-earned tax dollars.
We must reign in the politicians and get them to spend our tax dollars sensibly! Politicians need to stop the out-of-control spending and stop putting the burden on the backs of hard-working taxpayers.
Protecting and Promoting Families in Montana
TSN will work to ensure that politicians act in a way that strengthens, not threatens, families. We must continuously fight to defend the rights of parents and allow families to make their own decisions. It is vital that politicians who get into office on “family values” continue to work for those causes.
